CustomPartNet, the free online resource for manufacturing cost estimation, experienced record growth in 2009 in terms of online traffic, registered users, and number of cost estimates. New content and added functionality attracted both buyers and suppliers from major companies worldwide. They joined a rapidly growing community of loyal users that made 2009 a remarkable year.
CustomPartNet achieved several significant milestones in 2009, including the following:
- Yearly traffic approached 200,000 visits - CustomPartNet experienced steady growth last year, with monthly traffic increasing 150% from the start of the year. The total traffic for 2009 hit 196,000 visits, more than doubling the total from 2008.
- Over 900 new registered users - CustomPartNet registered 924 new users in 2009. These users join a community of engineers that span a wide range of disciplines and include designers, manufacturers, and students. The total registered users at CustomPartNet represent over 700 companies and 100 universities from 193 countries around the world.
- Over $7 billion in new estimates - In 2009, CustomPartNet users created over 46,000 new cost estimates for custom parts made through Injection Molding, Die Casting, Sand Casting, and Machining. The total value of these estimates is approximately $7.5 billion. This does not include the thousands of additional estimates performed that started with a reference part for a baseline cost.
- New content and added functionality - Last year, CustomPartNet expanded both its educational content and interactive tools. Process overviews and images were added for several sheet metal fabrication processes, such as bending, drawing, and shearing. Many additions, including sheet metal, were made to CustomPartNet’s popular widgets, which allow for quick design and manufacturing calculations. Lastly, a customizable part gallery widget was developed that added portability and flexibility to a user’s saved parts and estimates.
For 2010, CustomPartNet has plans to add functionality to the current cost estimators and other online tools. The focus will be enabling easier and more productive collaboration on estimates between users. Also, CustomPartNet plans to provide industry news and technical papers to help build and support our community of manufacturing and design engineers. CustomPartNet is committed to providing users both the tools and resources to design, cost, and manufacture their custom parts.
